According to a report of TOI The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways ( MoRTH) has ordered all vehicles to carry the high security registration plate ( HSRP) that are sold prior to April, 2019.

On Tuesday Wednesday, The Delhi Transport Department began fining the vehicles that do not have HSRP and colour-coded fuel stickers. What is HSRP?

This high security registration plateis comprised of aluminum and is secured to the vehicle using two non-reusable locks. The registration plate is hot-stamped with a in chromium based holograms in the shape of Ashoka Chakra on the top left-hand corner. The area is blue in colour and is precise to measure 20mm by 20mm.

In the bottom left part of the plateis the 10,-digit PIN (permanent identification number) which is laser-engraved onto this reflective surface. The HSRP also has hot-stamped paper that has been applied to the registration numerals and the letters with the Indian inscription at a 45-degree angle. A vehicle stolen will always end up with a replaced registration plate and makes it difficult for authorities to locate it But HSRPs include a non-removable snap-on lock and are very difficult to replace.

The HSRPs can also be beneficial as crucial information about a vehicle such as the engine's number and the chassis's number can be saved in a centralized database. The stored information, along with the 10-digit pin becomes essential in identifying stolen car.

How much does HSRP cost?

The central government hasn't fixed the price of HSRP meaning that the cost will vary across states. In the average, HSRP cost is around Rs 400 for two-wheelers, and up to 1100 rupees for four-wheelers based on the classification. The colour-coded stickers can be installed for just Rs 100 for vehicles that have an HSRP.
